In earlier versions of Ark, we used a deck of cards called vision cards. Vision cards are given out at the beginning of the game and and kept secret until colonization. Once they are revealed, each player can win points from all vision cards, regardless of who holds them.
The vision cards are supposed to provide uncertainty about your exact score. In practice, they don’t really influence the relative final score very much. For the next playtest, we are going to try vision cards in a different way. This time, they will be personal, not communal. Also, they will be earned in game.
I’m hoping that vision cards will inspire even more cooperation toward colonization. Secret information helps the player feel they have a chance.
