Board game as object

It’s something special for me, unwrapping a new game and looking at the pieces. I look excitedly through the components, guessing what they might do. Sometimes I take a moment just to appreciate the artistry.

Like the colorful combination of tiles in the game Archipelago… cool as things, apart from their map-making function in the game.

The chips in Puzzle Strike are satisfying to clank around in the bag. It feels nice to touch, and to think about the possibilities they represent.

The pieces in Hive are heavy and feel good in my hand. Their solidity is comforting.

I love getting a new game in the mail.
